QuestionI have a 6' tall evergreen tree i want to remove.
I used a circular saw to cut down the branches.
Right now it is about 2' high & i tried to dig the remaining part out.
I am getting nowhere because the roots look like 2" in diameter & the tree wont budge when i push on it.
I can't get the saw under to cut the bottom off.
How can i remove it ?
AnswerUnless you want to spend a lot of effort and time digging it up i would either put a chemical on the stump to speed up the decaying or just cover the stump with soil and let it decay naturally. Most evergreen have a tap root that will grow deep into the ground and is next to impossible to dig completely up. A tree your size will not really have a extensive roots system so the area the root cover will not interfere with you planting something else in the place. The stump of evergreens will not re sprout so you do not have to dig the stump it will die.
I would take an axe and cut the stump below the ground surface (maybe 3-4 inches) and then just cover it with soil. The stump will decay on its own. Since the stump is small it will decay faster then a large stump because the wood is not as dense as older wood.
