QuestionMy neighbor and I share a driveway easement. He often has large trucks use the easement (rather than his service road) and there are several wounds to the trunk of the tree. The latest was done this past week and I am very concerned about entering the hot months in SC. It is April and we are already in the 70's. The tree is one of many lining each side of the driveway and it is about 70 years old. What should I do for the tree other than force my neighbor to re-route his trucks? The wounds are about 2 feet from the base of the tree.
AnswerCut the loose bark from around the wound if any and spray the area with an insecticide for borers, Merit is a newer insecticide and will work well. This will prevent any insect attack. Do not put any wound dressing or paint on the wound. The wound will heal faster by itself. You should be able to get Merit at your local nursery/garden type store.
