QuestionJim,
I am looking for the name of a rapidly growing tree. Currently it is planted along a golf course b/c it's rapidly growing and provides a good sound/visual barrier. The golf course superintendent said it was "Austry Tree", but I cannot find anything like that on the internet..so far. Do you know the variety of tree he may be talking about? Your help is much appreciated.

AnswerCommon names are very difficult since different people call the same tree by a different name. I am going to guess that this is an Eucalyptus. There are many different species of this tree.
Eucalyptus ( Eucalyptus globulus ) is a tall evergreen tree native to Australia and Tasmania.
Eucalyptus (From Greek, ευκάλυπτος = "Well covered") is a diverse genus of trees (and a few shrubs), the members of which dominate the tree flora of Australia. There are more than seven hundred species of Eucalyptus, mostly native to Australia, with a very small number found in adjacent parts of New Guinea and Indonesia and one as far north as the Philippines islands. Many Eucalyptus have been planted in various parts of the world including the dry regions of Southern California and in Africa, Portugal, Spain, South America, and on forestry plantations in India and China.
Here is a web link to the description and pictures of Eucalyptus.
