QuestionPlanted blue spruce trees in November 1. Watered trees daily until frost and snow arrived. Trees look healthy. When will we actually know these trees survived. We planted 30 of them and they all look real healthy. Also is there anything we can do at this point to feed or nourish them. Thank you
AnswerYou will have to wait until spring and see how the trees took to the winter. There is not really anything that should be done to trees planted the first year. Mulching around the trees will help hold moisture (use only 3 inches deep of mulch). Do not fertilize the trees until after the first growing season. The young trees are establishing roots and may not grow too tall the first couple of years. It is important to make sure they have moisture--if it does not rain for 10-14 days I would water the trees. Again mulch will greatly help this moisture retention.
