feeding native trees in hillcountry ?

Question
Hello:  I live west of Dripping Springs.  I have ten acres of scattered juniper, live oak and spanish oak.  Some of them are in the creek bottom land and do okay, but others are struggling on limestone terraces where there is little top soil.  I have cut some of the junipers from around the oaks, but would some sort of compost/fertilizer help them?
Thanks for your work on this forum.

Answer
I assume you mean Dripping Springs, Texas?? If so I would contact the Texas Forest Service (state agency) and ask one of their Foresters to take a look and advice you on the ground. Their contact in the Austin area web link is http://txforestservice.tamu.edu/main/article.aspx?ctrl=3
OR their number should be in your local phone book.

It would not pay to add mulch around these trees since it would be too many but fertilizer of the whole area may help. The local Foresters can better advise as to what fertilizer to use and how much.
