QuestionHi, I planted 19 emerald cedar trees this spring they did fine all summer, now the center of all of them have turned brown, the outter branches are still green. Is this normal? Should I remove the brown branches? I live in ontario Canada and have read not to do any pruning in the fall. Should I just leave them till spring?
AnswerThis is normal. The inner needles can be shaded and will be shed. Also newly planted trees sometimes shed a few branches due to stress of the planting. Do not remove the brown branches now but wait until the spring. The dead material should be removed but no other pruning needs to be done.
