fruitless plum

Question
I am reading on here, and I have some 1 year old fruitless plum trees.  I am also in Texas so we went through heavy rain this year, then drought again.  My plums have been oozing sap lately and I began to treat them for borers.  However, just this past week, I noticed cracking in the bark like something is trying to bust out of the trunks.  Is this borers, or something else, or more importantly, anything I need to be alarmed with?  Thanks

Answer
It sounds like a response to the borers. If you see any fresh signs of dust, oozing I would spray the area again. It some times take a couple of sprayings to kill borers.
Fertilizing the tree will help improve the tree's health and make it less desirable for the borers. fertilize with 10-10-10 at a rate of 1 lb per trunk diameter, scatter the fertilizer around the tree and water in good. Do this now and again in the spring.
