QuestionI purchased my tree on May/26/05. The nursery sent a horticulturist to plant it for me. In the fall the leaves looked dry and not the red they wre suppose to be. I was advised by the nursury that it was probably just shock. The next summer it bloomed but very little. This last summerit had lots of blooms. My Arborist that tends to my trees an large bushes said the tree was planted too deep so he raised it after it bloomed but now in the fall the leaves look dry and I'm wondering if it is dying. I don't see any of the deep red it should be. Thanks for your time.
AnswerIt sounds like the tree is going through the same shock it had when it was first planted. Dogwood trees seem to be stressed by transplanting more than other trees. what was done when the tree was "raised" the roots were damaged and it took on the same symptoms as a transplanted tree. Keep it watered and it should be ok but I would leave the tree alone and let it put done roots and then the blooms and fall color will return.
