QuestionWe recently had a purple weeping beech tree planted and it seems to be dying. The leaves are falling off and there is no new growth at all. It looks very thin and dry. It has been getting water regularly and is planted in soil with good drainage. It did go through a dry spell for about a week with no water because we were out of town and our sprinkler system failed. Is there anything I can do to save it?
AnswerWater it with 10 gal. per inch of trunk Diameter every third day until you get rainfall. It sounds like it went through a shock without the regular water it was use to getting and "thought" it was fall and dropped its leaves. the water will keep the roots alive but I would not expect any new leaves this until next spring. Do not fertilize it right now but let the roots get the water.
