Sycamore tree insects

Question
We have a huge Sycamore tree way too close to the house.  Everytime we go out the door this massive tree is covering everything.  My family has been getting a large amount of small bites on our arms and ankles under this tree.  I cut the low lying limbs off of it right before this started. Is there an insect that might not be easily visable to naked eye that could be living on these limbs or leaves?  If so what should I do?

Thank you,

Answer
The only thing that comes to mind are biting or itch mites. These mites feed on insect and one of the insects they feed on is Sycamore lace bug.

Itch mite bites are red, from one-fourth to three-fourths of an inch in diameter, with a hard, raised "pimple" in the middle. The bites are intensely itchy, but when scratched there is little relief and scratching is quite painful. Remember, many other types of critters, such as mosquitoes, chiggers, fleas and black flies, also can bite you and cause red, itching welts.

Wear a DEET repellent when working outdoors under pin oak trees when mites are active.
As a general treatment for biting insects and mites, use calamine lotion, an antihistamine cream, such as Benadryl, or a hydrocortisone cream. Wash the site often with soap and use an appropriate antiseptic and antibiotic ointment to keep the wound clean and to promote healing. Don't scratch.

Sorry that is about all I can suggest. You might call your local Agriculture Extension Service and ask them If they have gotten any calls about this. Their phone number should be in the local phone book.
