Borer in red maple (sunset)

I spoke to a local tree farm about what looks like damage to the trunk of a red maple. They are 95% sure it's a borer. Instructions: peel the damage-look bark, use wire to poke all the holes and try to kill bugs, then use spray. Is there somewhere online we can get both borer spray and also a systemic treatment?

Amazon.com does have the insecticide but I think if possible I would go to a local nursery and ask for Merit or Onxy insecticide. Bayer makes a merit insecticide for borers for trees.
