QuestionI live in central NC and my two 20 foot maple trees are starting to turn their color..light green to some yellow and red. I thought it was from lack of water, but I do irrigate 3 times a week (water restriction), and my grass is green. What else can be the problem? It's only the last day of July!
AnswerMaples are susceptible to drought conditions and the leaves will turn prematurely. A tree needs about 1 inch of water per week (place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinklers on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop). Grasses need less than that so you might find out that you are not watering the tree enough.
