QuestionWe has a sunset maple transplanted and that tree is fine. We got a ornamental tree transplanted and it was cool outside at the time but now it is hot (we live in IL crazy weather) and some leaves are turning brown and falling off. The nursey told us to water the trees 45 minutes once a week. We do have mulch around the tree. What can we do differently to help the tree's stress? We had a cooling period where the temps were in the mid 70's and now it has warmed up to 80-90 degrees will a few rain storms here and there. Thanks.
AnswerWhat you are doing is what needs to be done. A tree needs 1 inch of water per week as I would put a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. I do not know how long this will take maybe the same 45 minutes as the nursery said. Transplanting hardwoods really should be done in the fall after leaf drop. Other times you can have stress from the lack of water.
If you keep what you are doing up it should be OK.
