QuestionWe planted our plum tree very early spring, we enjoyed the blossoms it showed. But shortly after that it appears that something is tearing apart the leaves or eating them. I never see any bugs on the leaves. What could we use to save the leaves and encourage the growth of the tree?
AnswerIf the bugs are caterpillar type insects spray the foliage with an insecticide called Bt. If you can not determine the type of insect then use Sevin liquid on the foliage or you can try Bt. Bt works on caterpillars but not on beetles that maybe eating the foliage. Then I would fertilize the tree with 13-13-13 fertilizer at about 1/2 lb per diameter of the tree trunk.
