QuestionI have a Japanese Maple, sorry I don't know the type, that is about 8 yrs old. About 6 yrs ago my dog ripped off the top main branch on one side. The tree survived the attack but now it is getting bigger and is leaning. What kind of pruning should I do or should I just stake it? It's only about 3 ft tall and has a canopy on one side thats about 3 ft wide and only maybe 1 ft on the other. Very unique shape.
AnswerI would stake it and let it grow and see what shape it will naturally grow into before I tried to prune and shape it myself. With a tree this small it will respond to staking and should fill out nicely. This may take a couple of years but it should be fine.
