QuestionI planted a maple tree last May or June. It grew beautifully all summer/fall. This spring it only has very limited leaves, mostly near the trunk. There are some leaves coming out now on a few of the branches, but none at the top 2 feet and none on ends of thelarger branches. It is now almost June and I live about 20 miles south of Lake Erie in Pennsylvania. We had some warm weather and then a foot of snow and cold spell for 3 or 4 weeks. My other trees survived okay, but not sure about this one because it's onlya year old. Please advise.
AnswerThe late freeze killed some of the buds and that is why you are seeing fewer leaves. I would just wait and see what happens and keep the tree watered during dry periods. It may leaf out or may just hang on with the smaller leaves. In about a month or so you can prune the dead branches off. If it can make it through he summer than it should leaf out next year ok.
