QuestionWe planted 9 Green Giants in April to make a privacy screen for in the winter. Immediately after planting there was a freeze. Several branches have turned brown. The trees are in front of a line of natural woodland trees. They get some morning sun and dappled shade the remainder of the day. Should they do well in this location and should I be concerned about the brown branches?
AnswerThey will do well in sun or partial shade. Sounds like it is a combination of the freeze and planting shock that has put a stress on the foliage. They should grow out of it just keep them watered during dry spells--water with 1 inch of water per week --place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop.
