QuestionJim-I have a creek running through my backyard. English ivy was planted there several years ago to control erosion. The ivy has gone wild. It has attached itself to the trees and has climbed some. It has crept into my neighbor's yard. If I spray a herbiside like Roundup on it what will happen? Will it kill the tree? Will it kill the ivy back to the roots? I just want to kill the sprayed area, not the plant. Any suggestions?

AnswerIf you spray the ivy leaves the herbicide Roundup will be transported to the root system and kill the ivy plant. The roundup spray will have no effect on the trees AS LONG AS you DO Not spray the foliage (green leaves)of the tree. If you want to keep the ivy but in check you will have to cut it back to where you want it. Cut the vines where you want it to be and pull the others up. Sorry this can be quite a bit of work.
