QuestionWe live in Arizona and we had some mornings with frost and it seems
like our fica trees took the hard hit. The leaves are totally brown the
branches snap off very easy. The trees never lost there leaves. but now
there is little bit if growth on the main trunk of the tree. Are they
dead or will they come back?
AnswerAbout the only thing you can do is wait and see. To tell if a branch is dead you can scrape a little of the bark starting at the top and see what color is under the bark--if it is green then the branch is still alive at this point of the branch--If the color is brown then it is dead at this point on the branch. If not green continue down the branch until you find green and prune the dead off.
OR you can just wait and see if the tree leafs out and then prune the parts that do not leaf out and are dead.
