Little oak trees

Question
Under a large oak in the front yard, little 'baby' oaks are springing up.  I tried replanting some, but they died.  I am letting the others grow while I try to find out how to move them without killing them.  The largest is four feet high.  The others are about 12 inches high.

I live near the coast in central Florida.  I never measured the distance, but it's probably 15 miles from the ocean.

Answer
First make sure the sprouts are from acorns not the root system of the large tree. dig domn and see if the rotts are attached to a large root or are growing seperately. If not attached dig a large rootball with the tree--usually about 12 inches wide for each diameter of trunk--these being small 12 inches should be enough and about 12 inces deep. Dig these in Feb and put into a new hole at once. The new hole should be twice the size of the root ball and fill with good top soil. Mulch around the tree and water once a week.
