QuestionI have a row of pines that are 2 stories tall and my daughter's boyfriend thought he would be helpful and trim them up. Only he trimmed the bottoms up 6 FEET! All branches from the bottom up 6 feet are trimmed totally off to the trunk. It's late July in Michigan here and I'm worried about the health of the trees, let alone I feel like I have lost my privacy, sound barrier and wildlife area. Will the trees grow their branches back? Will it damage these trees? What can I do? Please help! Thank you in advance.
AnswerPruning the lower limbs of pines will not effect their health. Timber companies prune the lower 16 feet of pines to creat a clear lower trunk so the limber will not have knots in it. The tree will not grow back these limbs. You have lost some of your sound barrier and visual barrier but should have no effect on the wildlife. If the trees are that tall you might consider planting shrubs this fall between the pines to act as your barriers. But with only 6 feet cut I would not worry with it.
