Questioni have a maple tree that i planted last year. it looked very healthy until yesterday. we had rain and wind yesterday afternoon, and i noticed that the tree was leaning to one side and i thought it was just due to the wind blowing it. last night, i noticed that all branches on the tree were very limp and hanging down. i staked the tree up as best i could to support it, but it is still very limp looking today. any idea what is going on? this happened so suddenly with no other signs of disease or distress.
AnswerSounds like the tree is just growing fast and the trunk is not large enough yet to support the wet foliage and it bends. Stake it until the main stem is about 3 inches in diameter and it then should be able to hold its own. If the foliage is green and healthy looking there is no problem with insects aor diseases.
