Overwatering of a maple?

Question
I live in Central Illinois and had a mature sunset red maple transplanted to my house (about 30 feet tall).  The tree always appears to need water as the leaves are curling toward the ground.  In response, I take my open hose and let the water run at a slow rate for a few hours.  I do this a couple times per week.  There seems to be no noticeable change.  Is it possible that I m overwatering the tree?

Answer
A mature tree is hard to transplant. I assume the tree was properly planted and the area was mulched.  I properly planted tree need a hole about twicw the size of the root ball and deep enough to be to the level of the original soil. A good mulch will hold the moisture. Trees need about 1 inch of water per week after they have been established. You only want to keep the soil in the new hole moist not wet. Use the hose to drip the water not run the hose. A tree this size will under go a pretty good shock during transplanting. I would check with the folks who planted it and see what they have to say. Most nurseries guarentee the their trees to live or will replact them, so they will be interested in making sure the tree does live.
