QuestionI had a landscaper move a Japanese Red Maple tree ten feet.
The tree is 7 years old. It has been one week and the leaves ar starting to dry up. I was told give it lots of water and I used some fertilizer tree spikes .When we moved it we made sure the hole was big enough but not to deep.He then covered up with soil and put mulch on top. The landscaper told me not to worry the tree is in shock, Just keep watering it and it will come back...My question is, is there anything eles I should do, ang how much water.. daily twice a day or every other day, and should I be using anything else
AnswerIt all depends on how much of the root system was cut during transplanting. Sounds like the process was pretty good for the hole and mulch. I think he is right the tree is suffering from shock. I would water once a day for another couple of weeks. Do not over water (put a pan under the tree and as you water when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop--1 inch is enough water for a tree and the mulch will help hold the moisture). I would water every other day after two weeks. If it rains there is no need to water that day. I would hold off on further fertilizer until the tree has leaves on again.
