diseased holly tree?

Question
Hi Jim,
I noticed that back in 2004 you answered a question about  a holly tree in which the normally healthy dark green leaves showed black spots and appeared half-eaten away with a gray border, and completely turned to a light, almost yellow appearance. We have a very similar situation on some recently planted holly trees. You had suggested that it was powdery mildew. Do you know what this person did to treat the disease and if the treatment was succesful? We are located in Baltimore, MD.

Thanks

Answer
After answering a question I normally do not get any more information from people on the out come--here is a web site link that discribes powdery mildew and its control. The most common control is sulfur or a fungicide.

If you have concerns that it may not be powdery mildew you can call the local office of the Maryland State Forestry Agency and ask one of their Foresters to take a look --this is a free service in most states.
