sickly kousa dogwood

Question
I purchased a kousa dogwood the first of June.  I thought it looked a little weak, but it was the only one available at the nursery from which I bought it, and it came with a year guarantee.  I dug a hole about twice the size of the root ball, planted it within an hour of purchase, mulched with bark mulch, and watered it well for about a week, at which time we had several days of periodic rain.  When I made the purchase, the leaves appeared to curl under somewhat, lengthwise, and many had small yellow dots on them.  The nursery worker said it was from growing crammed in with a lot of other trees, which I was apprehensive about, but as I said it was the only specimen.  Since I planted my kousa, it has gradually lost most of its leaves.  The remaining ones look bad, and there has been no new growth.  I called the nursery, and they said to gently scrape a branch here and there near the tip to look for green under the bark, to see if the branches are still alive.  Each place I've checked has been lovely and green underneath.  I have given the tree two mild feedings with Miracle Grow.  What could be wrong with my little tree, and is there anything I can do for it?  I live in the border of zones 5 and 6.

Answer
He is right about if there is green under the bark the tree is stil "alive". BUT without any or few leaves it wil do make it through the summer. I do not think the tree was healthy when you bought it. Check with the nursery and see when the Quanitee runs out. I would return the tree for a replcement or your money back.
