QuestionCan you tell me the steps to propagate a Japanese Maple? My neighbor has two beautiful ones, and we want one in my yard too. They run about 174.00 in the nurseries around here, so we thought we would try, if it is not too hard. Her trees are about 10 years old, so they are well established. We live in Chicago suburbs. Let me know if you need more information.

AnswerJill,
Let me cut to the chase here. The homeowner does not have the capability to propagate these plants and besides if you could accomplish this feat, it would be 10 years before yours would look like your neighbors do now and theirs would be even better. I am assuming their trees have been planted for 10 years, the trees were probably in production at the nursery for 5 years before they were sold.
Go to the nursery and buy a japanese maple.
