Questionhi,
I bought a braided fig tree a few months ago. It has now lost almost all its leaves, which is common from what I understand. I try to keep it watered properly, yet the branches seem to be a bit brittle. I'm wondering if I should trim them back at all. Also, how long does it usually take for regrowth of leaves?
thanks,
Lisa
AnswerLisa,
Sorry for taking so long to answer.
Ficus are notorious for dropping leaves after you bring them home. Most likely it is caused by a change in the environment. Be it light levels, drafts, etc. these changes contribute to leaf drop. There is a long involved biological explanantion of this that I will not bore you with.
You could trim the brittle branches back an inch or two, depending on the size of the plant, and it should start producing leaves that are more compatible with its new enviornment.
Good luck
Gary
