Question1.In july'2004, stlouis MO zone 5,I had planted in back yard, thuja about 5ft tall, 12inch dia ball 8 inch deep.
I would like to take out thuja and replant in new location where existing stump of sweet gum is totally grinded out 2 ft in diameter and 18 inch deep. only dirt is seen at bottom of this hole. Can I do it in this nov / dec month? Your thoughts please, on planting in existing holes where stump is grounded out.
2. I like to do same thing for jap. maple in another location.Jap maple is currently planted same time this year.
AnswerKirit,
Sorry about not being clear, but yes you can transplant now and it will be no problem using the location where the tree was ground out. Make sure when you transplant that the top of the rootballs of your Thuja and Japmaple are about an inch above grade as the soil will sink a bit.
Good luck
