Question
About 6 months ago, heavy winds broke the center spike of my royal palm.  Since then all but three of the branches have died and fallen off.  No new branches have grown.  The broken center spike is still hanging.  Is the tree dead?

Now I am not a palm expert by any means, but I will offer an opinion.

Palms are similar to grasses in their growth.  They grow from the center as this is where their meristems (areas of primary cell division that drives growth) are located.  This area may have been damaged in the heavy winds and can not produce new growth.

Contact an arborist in your area for further diagnosis.
