QuestionMy white pines are browning and also dropping whole clusters of green needles that look like small whisk brooms. They seem to have just fallen off the tree. I can see no evidence of disease.
This summer we mulched under the trees after 12 years of no mulch, also put landscape fabric beneath the mulch. The mulch is not covering any of the trunk that was previously exposed.
Could it be that the trees are not getting enough water now. I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
AnswerBonnie,
I would not think water is the problem exept for the landscape fabric. I NEVER recommend using these products.
Mulching will not inhibt irrigation, however using a fabric or worse black plastic will block water from getting to the tree.
Have a certified arborist take a look to see if there might be an insect or disease problem.
Good luck
