Mediterranean Fan Palm  

Med Fan Palm 2   I planted a Mediterranean Fan Palm in my yard in South Texas in April. It is about 5 or 6 feet tall from the base to the very top of the fronds. I just noticed the new fronds that are growing out of it and haven't opened yet have white fuzzy stuff growing mostly on their stems. There is also some white stuff on the upper stems of older fronds and some of these also have dark brown small circles on their stems. The opened fronds mostly look ok. The fronds have not been dying. Could this be a fungus disease or an insect? This plant is supposed to be easy to grow.

No worries Marianne,,,that is perfectly normal,,,it is part of the makeup of the Palm frond and is a common occurrence on many other Palms also. Enjoy your new Palm and be sure to keep it properly watered and fertilized and you will watch it mature into a beautiful addition to your landscape. Nick
