QuestionHello. i have a mini pony tail palm and one about 5 times larger, recently the little on started getting white sort of residue or what looks like mushed up paper and water dried on the leaves, but has recently spread to the larger palm beside it. what could this be ? these plants are kept inside, and only watered from the pot.
AnswerIt sounds like Scale insect,,but a picture would really help,,if it is scale..you can take some Isoprophyl Alcohol and with a paper towel,,wipe the leaves where it is,,,this will kill them and not harm the Palm. Scale has a shell coating (the papery looking mess you are seeing), but can be eradicated with this method or by spraying with a Horticultural Oil, (Parafine Oil)...which will suffocate them,,but again, without a picture,,I am not certain this is your problem.
