Question
palm trees
Looking down into the top of the tree(s) where the fronds initiate, all you see is brown brush. However, the upper portion of one trunk is green half way uup and the other even has green in the fronds. These are twin palms. My question is as follows;
(1)how much destruction of the upper trunk can & should be done to allow new frond to emerge, (2) can one of the trees be salvaged while losing the other, and (3) are the trees salvagable at all ??
AnswerThe one on the left needs to be cut off at soil level, for it is indeed "kaput", this will not effect the other, it needs to be sprayed with a Copper fungicide, to keep any fungal problems at bay, and then cross your fingers that it may develop some strength before next Winters onslaugth. Fertilize it also, with a well balanced palm fertilizer.
