What kind of tree/plant is this? The stalk is so long and i would like to shorten it. SHould i just cut it in half and place it back in the dirt, or does it need to root in water first? Thank you so much
AnswerIts a diffenbachia, commonly known as a "Dumb Cane", because of the poisonous sap it has (hence the caution recommended when planting it around children and pets..); it can be cut back to a more desirable height, and new growth will form just below the cut (where the top portion used to be..), the top portion however will not grow by sticking it in the soil (as would be the case with a Yucca or Dracaena), you would need to cut the top section into portions with leaf nodes attached and plant them.
