Question
Our new foxtail palm did not withstand the freezing rain.  We covered the trunk up past the first tails, however the freezing rain bent all the tails in half and they are now brown.  Should we prune these?  Will the palm tree come back?

Hi Natalie, the only thing you can do at this point, is spray the heart area (where the lower fronds meet the trunk) with a copper fungicide, and then hope for the best; if the spear is still green then there is a chance it may make it, but if the spear is brown also, then the hopes are dim. Be patient though and wait and see, for many times they do rebound, but it takes a long time, and by the time they do begin to revive, then we are close to next Winter and being in a weakened state, the prognosis for making it through that following Winter is bad.
