Bananas

Question
Why won't my bananas set full bunches of fruit. What happens is they set 2 or 3 sets, then the rest of the fruit fall off. Please help.

Answer
Bananas need a very specific care package in order to produce a full bunch, it consists of copious amounts of water and fertilizer, along with a very nutrient, moisture retaining soil base. Many here in Florida grow in a sandy soil mix, and only get sproadic fertilizing and irrigation from Mother Nature, (when it rains...). This type of care will produce what you have experienced and little more. My Bananas produce full size bunches, but it comes at a price, little out of my pocket, but labor intensive. You need to provide nutrients on a weekly basis, put your compost (grass, mulch etc.) around the base weekly , water 3 times a week and then hope that Mother Nature doesn't hit you with a freeze. If you check my previous posts I have addressed this several times. Bananas are very enigmatic, they will grow under the harshest of situations but will produce full bunches only with this type of care.
