QuestionQUESTION: I recently planted two foxtail palms, one is a B&B Triple and one is a 25 gal. single. The trees are in Tampa, I know, I know out of their zone but a friend wanted them badly. About a week after planting the single trunk tree is browning pretty heavily (looks like freeze damage) but has not been cool enough only down to upper forties at night one or two nights. This tree is however facing southwest. Possibly sunburn?? They are being watered about every other day since just planted. Do we need to cut back on watering a little? Thanks in advance for the advice.
Jason
ANSWER: Keep the watering every other day for several more weeks, this is important; as far as the declince is concerned, it is still adjusting and should eventually turn around for you , but keep in mind that the weather is going to get colder and you are a little out of the proper climate zone for Foxtails. In case of an impending freeze, try wrapping the trunk all the way up to the lowest frond with a frost blanket, this may keep it warm enough so it doesnt perish on you.

QUESTION: What may have caused the entire fronds to brown a dark brown? The ones facing the evening sun are worse than those on the back side of the tree. There are also small yellow spots up and down the fronds too.
Answerthere are a number of reasons for this to occur, but it sounds like a fungal problem; it is difficult to determine a problem over the internet (without physically seeing it..), but it does sound like a fungus. Also, who and how was it planted, this is important also.
