QuestionQUESTION: My calamondin tree has recently been moved outside for the summer. The mature leaves on the tree are curled under and have been for some time. I have altered the watering more and less to see if it helps, but nothing has. Recently, the young leaves that have just begun growing are also curling under. A few young leaves that are bigger are curled up like little tacos. Changes in watering havent seemed to help. More watering seems to make them curl like tacos and less watering makes them curl under I think, but this is my questions. Is watering problems causing this?
ANSWER: Hi Cale, Has this occured after you moved it out? were they fine while the Citrus was inside? Is it in a large enough container? (let me know its size and the containers..) Over watering would turn the leaves yellow and they would defoliate, so I don't believe that is your problem, let me know about the above questions so I can ponder this further. Nick

QUESTION: The more mature leaves have been curled under for some time now, like 8 months probably and haven't gotten worse or better. Since it has been moved outside, which was about a month ago, new leaves have begun growing and all of them are either curled under or curled like "tacos". The tree is about 5 years old, 2 of those years I have had it. It is about 15 inches tall and 8 wide or so. It outgrew its old container about a year ago, so I replanted it in a 15 x 6 inch container. You are correct, no leaves have fallen off or turned yellow. In all honestly the tree looks perfectly healthy, but I do pride myself on having beautiful bonsai trees and a tree with leaves going everywhere just isn't amazing to look at haha.
ANSWER: ..Calamondin is a Citrus that will get upwards of 15 feet when in the ground, I am thinking that you have stressed it by trying to contain it; if you insist on containing it, then you will need to move it into a much bigger container, because it will root bound quickly otherwise.

QUESTION: It has been contained for over 5 years, I highly doubt it has just now decided to become stressed. In addition to not being stressed, it is not root bound either, which means that is has room for roots to continue to grow. Regardless of where it is planted, in your expert opinion, what makes calamondin leaves curl under and others to curl inward?
Answerit is definitely root stress, something is compromising the roots and causing the leaf abnormality. Here in Florida, we see similiar leaf distortion, but it is from an insect calle the leaf miner, and I doubt it would be a problem in a contained plant that is indoors most of the time.
