QuestionHello,
I have had a healthy Dracaena since 1999 living in the original 12" plastic pot I transplanted it into upon purchase. On April 4, I transplanted it into a 16" terracota pot. While I normally put rocks in the bottom of my pots, I didn't have any for this transplant. The pot does have a drainage hole in it.
Since April 4, it has been droopy and sad. I spoke with someone at a local nursery and she suggested I soak it in the bathtub but I'm unable to carry it up the stairs. Instead, yesterday I watered it thoroughly until the saucer had about a half inch of water in it. It has not improved. Having had it for so long, I'd hate for it to die. Should I just be patient as it recovers from shock or is there something more I can do to bring it back to health?
Thanks so much for you time,
Jenny
AnswerJennifer, it is probably transplant shock, when you transplanted it, I am assuming you watered it well, so I would not soak it (like the nursery person told you...) or you run the risk of rotting the roots; it is stressed right now and needs to be put in an area where it will get dappled shade, until it recoups. Just water it when it is dry halfway down the container and be patient. Nick
