QuestionHello, I was interested in buying a Cocos nucifera and keeping it as an indoor plant. I was wondering if you recommend it as a good indoor plant. I was also wondering how tall it would get indoors and if it would actually produce any coconuts.
AnswerHi Jen, I have to be the bearer of bad news here, Coconut Palms are very difficult to grow anywhere except a semi-tropical climate zone at lease and a Tropical climate zone at best; I live in Southwest Florida and have a difficult time getting mine through the mild Winters here. They are far too big for even the biggest container, and need to be in the ground for any semblance of success to be obtained, and even if there were (and I don't know of it...)a "dwarf" variety that could be contained, it would never produce inside , because it needs a lot of humidity, heat and direct Sun, which could only be accomplished in a environmentally controlled greenhouse; an environment that would be way to extreme for your comfort zone.
