QuestionWe've had this rubber tree for ions, have up-potted it once, had it outside all last summer when we trimmed 6 feet off the leggy top (it's 12 ft tall now), brought it back in, put it in its normal sunny window where it has thrived for years. It made it through our dry winter (Montana) well as usual, due to regular watering & humidifier. SUDDENLY last week, it started dropping yellowing leaves by the dozens. If it is pot-bound again, would top dressing help? seems like the soil level has lowered since we up-potted it a few years ago...WE'RE desperate to save "him" who we call "Gigantor". Can you help?
AnswerHi Kate, Gigantor is just reacting from a change of environment or watering schedule, this is common with Rubber trees, the good news is it isn't dying, new growth will soon emerge and everything should be fine. Depending how long its been in the same container will determine if new soil and maybe even a new container is called for. If you are going to change out the container and soil, now is a good time, for it has already reacted. Nick................I wasn't going there Kate...LOL
