QuestionI have 2 plants..One is in a pot outside my front door, the other is still in the nursery pot. I do let them dry out before I water them. The first one had a
flower and a small bloom. After the flower died the bloom also died...The leaves started splitting and look awful..Both plants have leaves splitting..We are in So California but we had a very cold winter at nite only.. Temptures went down to 28-32 degrees. I have good drainage it gets three hrs full sun then partial shade...Hope you know the answer and I'm sure you do..Thank you
AnswerHi Beverly, thanks for the vote of confidence:)...BOP's are tropical plants and suffer cold stress whenever exposed to temps below 40 degrees, so the splitting and all around dilapidated look is from cold stress; as long as the roots are still viable, you should see a marked improvement when the weather warms up, keep them irrigated though, they need to be on the damp side (not wet!), and misted (to simulate humidity..). They should both be in the ground ideally, but if not possible, in a larger pot; definitely transplant the one in the nursery pot, for I am pretty sure you will find it pot bound. Nick
