QuestionNick, I have a new bromeliad I purchased for my wife from a Lowes Store and I see from the tag it says it is 'everlasting'. It also recommends 'low light' It is in a 6" terra cotta and the blossom is still flat and purple in color but very healthy. What would you recommend for optimal care and environment and lighting?
PS - My brother asked you about his Mass Cane and he says Thank You you were helpful!
Thanks! -David
AnswerDave, Bromeliads like to be kept damp, but not standing in water, and filtered light is fine; give you plant a liquid fertilizer, like Miracle-Grow at half the prescribed strength 2-3 times a year. Its flower should last quite awhile, and you will eventually notice a new plant growing beside it (a pup..), this is the next generation plant, for the one you have will eventually die, that is normal after blooming; the new plant should be allowed to develop for about 4-5 months before being separated from the mother and planted by itself, to eventually flower also. This trend goes on and on, this is the reason (I beleive anyway, for I am not familiar with "everlast"..) that this name was applied to it. All Broms grow in this manner, just remember, one plant, one flower and then it declines, only to be replaced by its pup. Nick
