Shallow rooted Queen Palm

Question
I have a Queen Palm that is about 20' tall.  The roots are not deep rooted and it is starting to lean and will probably fall over if not staked.  If I stake it, will it always be subject to falling over?  Or is there any way that I can get it to deep root?

Answer
Steve, this is pretty common really, it looks a lot worse then it is, the curl at the bottom exposes the roots and it looks as if it is uprooting itself, but it takes an awful lot to bring a Palm of that size down, like a category 4 or 5 Hurricane; it may be leaning a little, but there is little chance (or fear for that matter...) of it toppling. There isn't anything you can do about it anyway, barring lifting the entire root system and resetting, which would be a very, very expensive endeavor.  I am not there to see your Palm, but of the ones I have seen, there has only been a few times that one looked bad enough to warrant it "being removed", for bracing it is really not an option. I have a 15 footer that was leaned at about a 20 per cent slant from Hurricane Charley and it has been like that now since 2004 and hasn't moved since nor has its helath declined at all. Nick
