scheffelera plant

Question
I accidentally left my 15 year scheffelera plant outside during a hard freeze in south Louisiana.  When I realized it, the leaves were all drooping and brown. I brought the plant inside and trim all the leaves off and cut back some of the branches.  Under the bark it was still green, but has recently started to turn black.  Is there any way to save this tree?  It has a lot of sentimental meaning to me.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Suzanne, the checking of the Cambium layer under the bark is the  test to whether it is alive or not, but time will tell if it lives or continues to decline, and all you can do is make sure it is properly irrigated and misted; Scheffs are pretty resilient, so there is a good chance it will show new growth, but it will take time, so you must be patient.
