QuestionI am a snowbird. When I returned to my pad for the winter, I was astounded to see how tall and beautiful my poor wee bouganvillia had become. (I had decided it wasn't happy where I planted it, and was going to dig it up.) Now, I'm delighted with the blooms, but some of the branches are 10 plus feet high and curve all over my patio. At some point it is going to need pruning. What shall I do, and how shall I do it.
At present there is a pleasant mound of green at the bottom, with tall shooting stalks loaded with flowers shooting like a fountain.
AnswerHi Sandra and welcome back to paradise!...ok, because you are a bird, enjoy the color for a couple of months, but before you head back, you need to don a pair of heavy gloves and prune it way back to about 5 feet from the ground, thats right, cut it back severely, do this and next year when you return it will be in full color again for you.
