Question
Fox Tail
Hi Nick! We had a fox tail palm (approx 9 foot tall) planted last March. In late March we had an unusual hard freeze (upper 20's) for a couple of nights (Houston area). The fronds of the fox tail froze and turned brown, the new shoot didn't open by July so I trimmed them off (not knowing that I shouldn't have done this). Our other palms (pygmy's, queen, fans and sagos)all froze a little, we trimmed them and they flourished in the spring/summer. The fox looks green, but hasn't sprouted a new shoot since last March. I've used some palm food, slow watering, etc. Suggestions?
AnswerHi Belinda, The image doesn't look encouraging, albeit there is a little green showing on the terminal frond that you trimmed, if that green turns brown, then it is in fact. Kaput! Wait and see is all you can do now, keep it properly irrigated, but don't worry about fertilizing, it isn't going to be photosynthesizing until a new frond emerges. regards...Nick
