repair for over-watered ponytail palm

Question
Hi.  I purchased a ponytail palm about a month ago; it's in a gallon container.  I put it in my home where there's a north-facing window and it seemed to be doing well.  I probably watered it twice a week.  As I headed out of town, I'm sure I gave it some extra water and now, the whole top of it has fallen over.  I have drained the standing water but wonder what else I can do to bring it back to health.

Answer
Hi Carolyn, Pony Tails store all the water they need in that bulbous bottom they have, and a young one (like yours) in a container would easily be root damaged  with the type of watering you gave it; what has happened is the crown has rotted because of the wet roots. I would just let it dry out at this point and see if the damage is repairable, only time will tell. Nick
