I understand that I am supposed to cut back the bromeliad after it blooms, but where do I cut it back and how?

Just cut the spent bloom off, the parent plant will send out pups that will be the next bloomer, after the pups are well on their way , you can either leave them with the wilting parent, or cut them off and start them elsewhere. The parent plant only blooms the once and then dies. Nick
